After 6 years of blogging I have finally registered my own domain. I suppose if you’re reading this, this is not news to you… Anyway, www.fishgutswines.com
Here’s a quick look back through the past month or so as told through the neck of a bottle.
The big reveal after a 2 hour blind Pinot Noir Tasting. 8 Pinots ranging from Burgundy to California to Switzerland to the Mornington to Oregon…
Quite possibly the best combination of booze and food to ever happen. Ever. Chocolate gelato with 1946 PX Sherry (100 points from Robert Parker and a cool $3,000 price tag).
Private Champagne tasting at work. I was not terribly impressed by the Perrier Jouet and wonder if this is a wine that would benefit from decanting or at least several hours of breathing. It should be nothing short of sensational but I enjoyed the far less expensive Gosset Rose much much more.
My first Lafite! 2012 versus 2012 Continuum (Tim Mondavi) and 1975 Ch Beychevelle.
Beth makes a mean pasta vognole.
While out searching for apartments in the 3,000 degree heat I found some relief in the form of some sparkling orange. I’m a big fan and I don’t even like orange juice.
Charity auction prize- 1952-2007 Nebbiolo tasting. Absolutely stunning examples, especially the 1952 Borgogno and 1983 Gaja Barbaresco (super looking forward to my Barbaresco retrospective on 22 July).
A California wine master class with Karen MacNeil who quite literally wrote the Bible on wine.
Nice new 2001 Saint Emilion Grand Cru we’re going to get in at Ginsberg+Chan. ~$300– super deal!
Mongeard Mugneret tasting which proved totally delicious.
Greek wine master class with 17 wines from Acachia, Northern Peloponnese.
Call me tacky but, happy divorce to me. Thanks, friends for being there!
Derek & I smashed the first annual Tissot Limitless (hassle) Obstacle course. Not to brag, but I’m going to brag- 8th place out of 200- woot! All before 9 am..
Post obstacle course merits some pool time r&r.
As well as some beach time r&r. All before sunset.
A lovely showing from the Northern Rhone. I love my job.
And I love my boss. I get a text message saying, “Lauren, it’s you! And on a vintage version of your favourite website.”
Friday feet & wine. Tim Ho Wan is excellent with fine wine.
And because I can never sleep, 6 am hike to the Peak where it’s filled with crabs.
It’s a stunning world gin day! I hope you’re all celebrating like I will be in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1….
